Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was developed in China over 2000 years ago. It includes various forms of acupuncture, massage, herbal medicine, dietary therapy, and exercise.

This form of medicine is mainly concerned with identifying functional states which regulate digestion, breathing, etc. Disease is interpreted as a lack of harmony between the functional states and the environment. These disharmonies can be treated using acupuncture needle insertion, but other effective modalities such as cupping/fire cupping, guasha, and acupressure are available for patients that have a fear of, or are unable to, receive the traditional methods of needling

At our clinic, we offer a unique acupuncture experience. Acupuncture appointments are booked for 60 minutes, in which you can expect to spend the entire duration of every appointment one-on-one with our therapist. You will get re-evaluated each visit, and your treatment will be adjusted to your health and wellbeing on that day, as well as targeted towards your overall goal.

Acupuncture Therapy Edmonton South

The study of acupuncture views diseases as an imbalance in the body’s energy, which flows along pathways referred to as meridians. Acupuncture points are located along these meridians and long, extremely thin needles are used to correct the imbalances in the flow of energy. These thin metal needles are inserted into acupuncture points and are stimulated manually or electrical stimulation.

Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine understands that the human body has many different systems and body functions working in coordination with each other; we base our treatment plan on trying to maintain and achieve this balance of natural healing abilities. Our acupuncture services are very effective in treating musculoskeletal issues, namely lower back pain, shoulder pain, and joint pain stemming from repetitive injury or stress to these areas, poor posture, and congenital diseases.

How Acupuncture Treatment Works?

Getting experience of acupuncture is not painful as it might sound. We use fine needles that can easily penetrate through skin without damaging underlying tissue. Acupuncture therapy uses no drugs at all; instead, acupuncture stimulates nerves using tiny, sterile needles inserted into specific points on the body. We customize each therapy session so that we fully address any underlying health issues. Regular acupunctures usually take between 15–30 min per treatment session.

Gua Sha

This technique involves scraping the skin to produce light bruising. The skin is sometimes lubricated with massage oil and a spoon (or other tool ex. coins, bones, jade, rounded metal cap etc) is dragged over the skin in repeated pressured strokes, each of about 4-6 inches in length. It may result in subcutaneous bleeding which takes 2-4 days to fade. It does not cause capillary rupture like when you get a bruise. This is done in order to release unhealthy elements from injured areas as well as to stimulate blood flow and healing.

Acupressure

This technique is an alternative technique similar to acupuncture therapy. It, too, is focused on energy flowing through meridians in the body. To treat a body out of balance, physical pressure is applied to the acupuncture points to clear blockages in the meridians. Pressure can be applied by hand, elbow, or with various devices.
